Safeguarding Policy

Our Aim

“All children & young people should enjoy Carrickfergus YMCA facilities & activities without fear of physical, sexual, emotional abuse or neglect.”

Our Policy Statement

Carrickfergus YMCA is committed to taking every appropriate step to ensure the safety and well-being of the young people with whom it works, regardless of class, gender, race or creed. This policy applies to all children and young people with whom Carrickfergus YMCA is involved with regardless of age.

Carrickfergus YMCA is truly committed to safeguarding the well-being of its members, staff and volunteers, who should at all times show, and be shown, respect and understanding regarding their rights, safety and welfare.

Our Practice

When working with children and young people Carrickfergus YMCA will:

    • Promote the general welfare, health and personal development of children and protect them from harm
    • Recognise that children have rights as individuals and treat them with dignity and respect.
    • Raise awareness about what children are entitled to be protected from.
    • Adopt and apply a thorough and clearly defined method of recruiting and selecting staff and volunteers.
    • Plan an appropriate response to accidents and complaints and to alleged or suspected incidents of abuse.
    • Establish links with parents and other relevant organisations.

Designated Officers

Our designated Child Protection Officers are responsible for ensuring our staff and volunteers follow our child protection policy & procedures. They are also responsible for keeping in touch with other agencies, such as Social Service, and dealing with all concerns of a child protection nature.
